Indian Registry Program

Delay in Status Card

Leona Bird-Indian Registry Administrator

The common role of an IRA is to assist the Indian Registrar to maintain, update and preserve the integrity of the information contained within the Indian Register and within the Indian Registry Office.

The Indian Registry program is INAC funded. Funding is based on total population x funding formula =program dollars.

I assist members with registering events such as births, deaths, marriages and divorces. Furthermore I aid in the process of status cards applications, lend a hand with TLE (Treaty Land Entitlement) payments, participate in treaty day, elections, and annual general meetings and make every effort to research complete and bring into play the Gordon First Nation Membership Code

Lastly as a staff member I effectively represent my community with dignity and pride with government representatives, the public at large and elected officials.

Use the links to see how the services I provide can help you.

When you apply for a CIS otherwise known as a status card take the application to your First Nation Indian Registry Administrator or INAC Regional office Room 200, 1 First Nation Way Regina, SK. 2nd floor First Nations University of Canada. You may be asked to relinquish your old card. If you’re not in possession of it you may be asked to fill out a declaration for a lost/stolen card plus applicable identity documents are required when applying for a new CIS.

The federal government is in the process of introducing nationally a new Secure Certified Indian Status (SCIS) to replace the existing card. The new SCIS is intended to be a federal government secure identity document replacing the old CIS.

To finalize the design and implement the SCIS may take up until June, 2009.
