Economic Development Program

The Economic Development Program will develop and ensure the growth of the George Gordon First Nation economy by promoting GGFN as an attractive place to invest, increasing our participation in the Saskatchewan Economy, increase the employment levels of all Members, promote individual business membership, provide support to existing GGFN businesses and create new business ventures.

This program is funded through INAC for all members regardless of residency based on a weighted average.

The Housing Program manages the total stock of housing on George Gordon First Nation and all infrastructures attached.  A Housing Policy has been ratified by Chief and Council which applies to all housing units CMHC or Band.

Community Services

  • George Gordon Computer Center – Satellite Facility of the Punnichy High School - Service offered to community for Education Support - 24 seats available– Ages 16 & up

  • George Gordon Education Center – Nursery – Grade Eight- Completed in 1998.  The school gives students the opportunity to learn in a modern environment and aims to strengthen ties with the community.

Education

Provides Assistance for Resident Members of the George Gordon First Nation in the following areas

Mature Students – Upon meeting certain qualifying criteria may be eligible for assistance for tuition and books for short programs not funded by another agency.

Graduation Awards

Resident Members of the George Gordon First Nation for achieving graduation will be eligible to receive for High School, Post Secondary, and Mature Students.

Student Incentive Awards

In an effort to promote attendance, participation and academics an award a monetary incentive is made available to resident student members of the following schools Punnichy Community High School, Punnichy Elementary Community School and the George Gordon Education Center. 

Non-Resident Students

As the Education Program is funded for Resident students only, it is with regret that we must recommend members to our GAAP program.

Touchwood Post Secondary Program

Financial assistance is made available to Treaty/ Status Indian Students from George Gordon who in an effort to become self sufficient and develop their individual potential have been accepted at a recognized post secondary institution.

Daycare

Provides quality childcare by trained professionals in an early learning environment that is accessible and affordable. 

Day Care Center – 21 seats for children   Ages 6 months -12 years

Head Start

The Aboriginal Head Start Program is a place where pre-school children learn through play.  Head Start is a pre school program usually for children aged 3-4 years of age.  The classroom setting is designed around six components which are Culture and Language; Education; Health Promotion; Parental Involvement; Social Support Programs.

This program is available to non resident members offered through provincial departments.

Social Development

The Income Assistance program is available to resident member over the age of 18 as a last resort source of income.  Improvements to this program has been made in an attempt to better prepare youth with the appropriate skills and training required to participate in the Saskatchewan Labour Force.

National Child Benefit Reinvestment

The First Nations' National Child Benefit Reinvestment (NCBR) initiative provides a great opportunity to First Nations to develop projects that will address child poverty which exist in their individual community. Financial assistance is available to Resident Members of the George Gordon First Nation in child nutrition; childcare; support for parents; home to work transition; and cultural enrichment.

National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program / NNADAP

 Assistance provided to resident members and families within a 10 mile radius of the George Gordon First Nation.  

Medical transportation

Reimbursement for Medical Transportation  will be made at the rates set by Non-Insured Health Benefits with signed Certificate of Medical Attendance.

Medical Van

A Medical Van is available for the sole purpose of transporting patients for medical attention by doctors and community health nurses for child health clinics.

Brighter Futures

Resident Member funded program for youth recreation and wellness; adult conference and workshop attendance; and traditional wellness.

  • Indian Registry

Indian Registry program is open to all Gordon First Nation members wishing to register their children, apply for status cards, register events such as Marriage, Death, Divorces and transfers.  Indian Registry Administrator is available to answer any questions in regards to the above and can be contacted via email or telephone.

Current Population: 3,187 Members mainly reside off reserve.
